The latest update from the ABC 36 Weather Team

Lexington, Kentucky (WTVQ – ABC 36): Good Tuesday afternoon everyone, morning storms have already caused plenty of damage across Kentucky today. But the biggest and most widespread threat of the day is on the way for this afternoon and evening. The SPC (Storm Prediction Center) has upped central and eastern Kentucky’s risk to a rare “Moderate Risk” (level 4/5).

Slot0

Breaking down the tornado threat individually for us as the SPC has upped the tornado threat to 15% with the hatched area seeing an even greater potential for strong tornadoes. It is not often we get that high of a tornado risk here in central and eastern Kentucky.

Slot1

Damaging winds of hurricane force 75mph+ is also extremely elevated across central and eastern Kentucky with the entire area under a hatch potential.

Slot2

Large hail of 2.00″+ in diameter is also very possible. Please stay weather aware this afternoon – tonight. We have full team coverage all day long both on-air and online. #kywx
