LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! We are tracking rain showers likely out there to begin your day today. Showers moved in overnight and have dropped over an inch of rain in spots of central Kentucky as of Tuesday morning. The rain threat will be moving eastward throughout the day, leading to drier conditions this afternoon for the Lexington area.
Eastern Kentucky will see lingering isolated showers and a few storms through the afternoon. Eventually, everyone clears out during the evening. This leads to a pleasant overnight with temperatures falling into the low-to-mid 50s.
Temperatures warm-up once again Wednesday into Thursday. Wednesday is a “Go Day”, with pleasant morning temperatures and afternoon highs making a run at the low 80s. Thursday will be the warmest day of the week, as temperatures will climb into the mid-80s in spots.
This warmth leads to unsettled weather Friday that will last through the weekend. A few waves of systems will be likely with the first one moving in during the day on Friday. If you’re planning on heading to Oaks Day at Churchill Downs, be prepared for the possibility of rain. Saturday’s forecast is better than Friday, with the highest chance of rain in eastern Kentucky and a lower chance for central Kentucky. All eyes are on the forecast for the 150th running of the Kentucky Derby. As of right now, there is still a rain chance for showers during the afternoon but it is on the lower end.
This unsettled pattern persists through the day on Sunday into early next week. There is an isolated chance of showers and storms on Sunday but rain chances increase into Monday of next week.
