LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Happy Wednesday! Rain showers continue into your day today. Rain is likely early in the day, becoming more isolated into midday and afternoon. This is as a warm front lifts through the region. This passing warm front will lead to a bit of a temperature gradient. You can expect warmer temperatures, potentially into the mid-70s in southern Kentucky, while northern Kentucky may stay in the low 60s.

A round of heavy rain looks likely late this evening into the overnight hours. A few stronger storms could be possible with this round of rain, especially into southern Kentucky. This should exit during the early morning hours on Thursday. There will likely be a break in rain Thursday morning, leading to breezy and mild conditions.

This break in the rain will set the stage for our next chance of severe weather. Isolated-to-widely scattered storms will begin to fire up across central Kentucky and be moving off towards the northeast. There is a Level 2 Severe Risk in place for most of the ABC 36 viewing area on Thursday. Important to note that this will not be a repeat of last Tuesday, though it is important to still stay Weather Aware. All “modes” or types of severe weather are possible, including damaging wind gusts, isolated large hail, and a few tornadoes.

You can expect gusty winds outside of the stronger storms as well, especially as a cold front moves through during the late afternoon and evening. The highest chance of stronger storms will be during the midday and afternoon. Rainfall amounts through Thursday will be around 1-2 inches for most, with isolated higher amounts possible.

As the cold front passes late Thursday, this will end our severe weather threat. This passing front will also drop our temperatures. You can expect temperatures in the 50s on Friday with lingering off & on rain showers. Friday unfortunately looks to be dreary across the region. But that doesn’t last long! Improving conditions can be expected on Saturday. Everyone dries out and sunny skies return, with temperatures reaching the upper 60s and low 70s.

Stay with the ABC 36 Storm Team for more updates.
