Parents charged with abuse for child neglect appear in court

Plead not guilty to abuse charges

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Parents of a 2-month old child, who authorities say died from abuse injuries, Thursday pleaded not guilty to abuse and neglect charges.

An arrest citation says mother Rahar Rai and father Chendra Magar are charged with criminal abuse for neglecting their child.

The citation says during the investigation into the death of the 2-month old, officers found the child had deep bite marks on his extremities and face.

Investigators also say there was internal bleeding in his skull, eyes and scalp.

The father claims he never noticed injuries, and, according to the citation, admitted to drinking alcohol everyday, when at home with their child.

According to the citation, the mother admitted she allowed the 4-year old sibling of the child to be alone with the infant multiple times, and caught the sibling abusing the baby one week prior to its death.

The citation says she did not seek medical attention for the 2-month old.

Both are being held on $100,000 bond each.

Authorities say more charges may be added.

Their next court appearance is set for March 12.
