Lexington, Ky. (WTVQ) — New information from the Fayette County Clerk’s Office on Friday, after almost a month since the rollout of the new KAVIS system.

According to Fayette County Clerk Susan Lamb, penalties and interests for December and January tag renewal and registration will be waived through the end of February. Lamb says the news came this morning.

“That is a huge, huge, huge blessing I call it,” said Lamb.

Since the launch of the new KAVIS system, there have been quite a few bumps in the road. Such as having to reboot the system multiple times, to the card machines not working and to very long lines.

“We have had continuously 50 to 70 people in our renewal registration lines, pretty much all day long,” said Lamb.

However, there might be a light at the end of the tunnel

“But my staff sent a picture yesterday afternoon a little after 3 that nobody was in line. I accused them of locking the doors and nt letting anybody in, because I said this has not happened in three weeks.”

Lamb says that there has been talks with the police department about leniency for expired tags… Adding they have kept the police informed about why so many people may still have an expired tag.

Lamb also says that even though there have been plenty of hiccups along the way, she wants people to think positively.

“But I think if we can focus on the positives and the good outcomes that we’re eventually going to see on a more regular basis, that’s what I really want us to focus on”
