LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — The 20th annual Fayette County CASA Angel Tree kicked off earlier Monday in Lexington.

The event aims to gather the community to support families in the court system to receive gifts and support for the holidays.

Our photojournalist Dylan Scheid was there and spoke to Executive Director Melynda Jamison about the event’s importance.

“The CASA Angel Tree is just a ray of light this holiday season to give them some of their needs. Whether that’s a winter coat, or new clothing, as well as some of their wishes that they’ve always hoped for. Maybe a bicycle or a doll,” said Jamison.

Participants will pick the names of children from the Angel Tree. Volunteers will later deliver the gifts to the current caregivers of the children in early December, giving families enough time to wrap the gifts before the holidays arrive.
