Nice post-Labor Day conditions ahead of a late week cold front
Meteorologist Dillon Gaudet has the latest in your full ABC 36 Storm Team forecast
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! We are tracking cool conditions out there as you head back to work Tuesday morning. We will be just a degree or two warmer than yesterday later this afternoon, with most locations climbing into the upper 70s and low 80s. There is a small chance we sneak in a shower or two in south-central Kentucky. The rest of the area? You will be staying dry with a few more clouds than yesterday.
There is a small warm-up on the way mid-week. Afternoon highs on Wednesday and Thursday will make a run at the mid-80s in most locations. A few upper 80s will be possible on Thursday as well. We are going to remain mainly dry through this time period as well.
A strong cold front is set to move through the region late Friday into Saturday. This will increase rain chances late Sunday into the early morning hours of Saturday before bringing the coolest air of the season for the weekend. This front won’t likely have much moisture to work with, so don’t expect widespread heavy rain. However, isolated-to-scattered showers and storms will be moving through later in the day into the night on Friday.
The temperature drop is the main impact from this front. Morning lows on Sunday will be in the 40s for most of the area! Afternoon highs on Saturday will also struggle to reach the low-to-mid 70s as well. Chilly morning temperatures continue into Monday before we we start to warm-up closer to average by Monday afternoon into Tuesday.
The forecast for the Kentucky-South Carolina game on Saturday looks much better than last week. There may be some morning rain chances as the cold front exits the region, but we should be improving for the afternoon. Temperatures will be dropping though, we may end the game in the 60s. It’s still early in the week though so be sure to be checking back in with us for more updates.
