Lexington SC gives sneak peek of brand new stadium
Will officially open on Sunday, for the Super League match
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — A big weekend ahead for the city of Lexington and its professional soccer team.
Lexington Sporting Club’s Super League women’s team will be opening up their brand new stadium on Sunday.
“We feel confident, we feel excited and we feel ready,” says Michael Dickey, the coach of the Super League women’s team, who spoke on the anticipation ahead of Sunday.
It’s an accomplishment that has been in the works since it was announced back in October, the new soccer stadium in Lexington.
“We couldn’t be more pumped the fact that we get to play our first home game,” says Super League player, Bridgette Skiba.
Lexington sporting club has been playing their professional USL Super League One matches in Georgetown , at Toyota Stadium, while the organization planned their next steps toward a new stadium.
“We’re excited to have professional soccer here in Lexington and to have the fans have an opportunity to see, division one, highest level pro soccer right here in Lexington. So it’s going to be, it’s going to be awesome when this place is rocking,” added Dickey.
For the USL Super League layers the opportunity to represent the city and be a role model, is exciting.
“We’re super excited. I think growing up, we didn’t have the opportunities that kids have these days and super exciting to get to be a role model and get to set the foundation for future generations and get to be a part of something,” added Cori Sullivan, who is part of the Super League team.
The stadium has a capacity of 7,500 with the ability to expand into 11,000. The seven training fields and the stadium represent an investment of more than $80 million.
“Every seat is a good seat, so you’re going to feel like you’re right on the pitch with the players, you’re going to hear the coaches interacting, you’re going to hear the players talking, you’re going to see everything, added Coach Dickey.
Also saying, “this is for the community and the team and the coaching staff, we’re just conduits, for the community to bring a sport, to bring entertainment,” he said.
Game time on Sunday is at 4 p.m.
The new stadium is located on 200 Shives Drive, in Lexington.
