A driver in Lexington was rescued Tuesday morning after they drove their car into a pond, according to Lexington police.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. on Jacks Creek Pike near Crawley Lane, said Lt. Joe Anderson with the Lexington Police Department. A vehicle left the road and went into a pond, according to Anderson.

The Lexington Fire Department assisted with rescuing the driver and retrieving the vehicle. Maj. Jessica Bowman with the fire department said the driver was sitting on top of the vehicle in roughly 4 to 5 feet of water close to the bank when firefighters arrived.

Firefighters laid out a ladder from the bank to the roof of the vehicle to get the driver out of the pond, according to Bowman. Anderson said the driver suffered minor injuries but didn’t go to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is unknown, Anderson said.
