Helene to bring strong wind and heavy rain to central and eastern Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – We are tracking impacts from now Hurricane Helene across Kentucky late this week and into the weekend. Steady rain on the way today in southern and southeastern Kentucky today, while widespread heavy rain and very gusty winds move in tonight and into your Friday. 2-4 inches of rain is likely for most of the areas, with isolated spots picking up over 4 inches, maybe close to 5-6 inches of rain. Widespread strong wind gusts of 40-50 mph will be LIKELY Friday morning. Isolated gusts of 50-60+ mph will be possible, particularly mid-to-late morning on Friday. Heavy rain and strong winds will subside during the second half of the day on Friday, but lingering showers will last through the weekend. We don’t begin to see improvement for our area until a cold front finally sweeps the remnants of Helene out of here late Tuesday into Wednesday of next week.
