Two houses on Sunny Slope Trace sustained significant damage in a two-alarm fire Friday afternoon.

“Both homes are going to be a total loss,” said Lexington Fire Department Major Jessica Bowman.

No injuries were reported.

Bowman said the fire on the 800 block of Sunny Slope, off Wyndham Hills Drive in south Lexington, was reported at 4:07 p.m. When firefighters arrived, she said they found a “very advanced” fire involving two structures.

“Crews experienced heavy fire conditions upon arrival,” she said. “The fire extended from the original home to a neighboring home, and a second alarm was called.”

She said Friday’s heat and the fact that the fire was advanced made it important to call in the additional crews for safety. More than 50 firefighters responded to the scene.

Bowman said one of the homes is thought to have been vacant. The family who lived in the other house will be staying with friends or family members, she said.

Bowman said the cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
